Value Based Purchasing (VBP)

Multiple states offer a value based purchasing program (VBP) to reward high-performing organizations.  These dollars can be significant, often in the high hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars, and add to the overall Medicaid revenue strategy.

It is important to understand each measure, and how your facility is performing compared to the program expectations and your peers.  We would create successful results through the following actions:

  • Assess current program metrics and expectations
  • Assess your facility’s current performance in the program
  • Review opportunities for quick wins in the current measurement period
  • Develop the cost of improvement to achieve additional quality payments
  • Review the ability to achieve meaningful results in the current measurement period
  • Implementation of quality improvements and programs which will drive results
  • Estimating the potential quality payments
  • Developing a full-year plan for the upcoming measurement period

Quality Fiscal Year

Positive performance in Value-Based Purchasing requires a sustainable strategy and continued focus throughout the measurement period.  We utilize a concept known as the Quality Fiscal Year to ensure the organization is planning, developing, and executing its strategy during the most impactful time period.  This ensures time is not wasted on measures that cannot create value in the current measurement period and allows for ample planning and execution to produce the best results during the measurement period.
